2023 Legislative Session Wrap-Up

Louisiana REALTORS® • June 13, 2023

The 2023 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature began April 10 and ended June 8. The session was fiscal in nature, meaning the session was shorter, and each legislator could only file five pieces of non-fiscal legislation. This was the last regular legislative session for Gov. John Bel Edwards, D-Amite; Senate President Page Cortez, R-Lafayette; and House Speaker Clay Schexnayder, R-Gonzales.

The Louisiana REALTORS® Advocacy Team tracked over 200 pieces of legislation on behalf of the real estate industry and appeared at the Legislature daily to ensure your profession was represented and Louisiana citizens’ property rights were protected.

These efforts led to the successful passage of bills that will make improvements for the profession and consumers you serve. These efforts also led to effectively stopping legislation in its tracks that would have been bad for your profession and the consumers you serve or amending all objections out of many bills that without your involvement would have been detrimental.

Bills that were signed go into effect August 1 unless otherwise indicated.
