REALTOR® Community Involvement Spotlight: Cindy Herring

Louisiana Realtors® • September 10, 2021

For over 17 years, Cindy Herring has been serving her community of New Iberia as a REALTOR®. However, it is important to know that her service goes far beyond helping her clients handle their real estate transactions. Shortly after opening her own agency in 2008, Cindy joined Kiwanis, where she currently serves as President. Before her career in the real estate industry, her passion for helping was evident in her job as a social worker.  Her passion for people and her community is demonstrated through her personal and professional activities. “My favorite part of being a REALTOR® is definitely the people and being able to find a match for them,” says Herring.

Cindy became the New Iberia Kiwanis President during a trying time, the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This also happened to be the perfect time for her natural desire to lead and help to take over. During her initial tenure, she led a drive to secure N95 masks for local hospitals, additional meals for hospital staff, and a community food drive that resulted in over 1 million pounds of food being donated. Due to the unprecedented nature of the time and community health concerns, the traditional means of fundraising weren’t possible; this did not deter or dissuade Cindy from reaching out to their loyal sponsors to generate the funding for these projects.

With this round of fundraising, Kiwanis was able to also pay fees for children at the Boys and Girls Club, which had increased due to a reduced capacity. Not only did Cindy and her club make it possible for these children to get the support and resources they need, but they also provided goodie bags with items like masks, hand sanitizers, and fun things like bracelets and toys. Another initiative of the Kiwanis was to secure baby formula donations for the Unexpected Pregnancy Center.

“Kiwanis gave me something to focus on while I was home, and things were slow, and it was all positive.” What began as a networking opportunity has blossomed into a thriving opportunity to serve that has expanded beyond New Iberia. Cindy has been to Haiti three different times on mission trips.

Like so many REALTORS®, Cindy is committed to making her community a better place, and she has the same commitment to helping her clients navigate the process of buying and selling real estate. Her skillset, natural leadership, and compassion are the perfect combination to create a pleasant, satisfying, and successful experience.

NOMINATE A REALTOR®
By Louisiana REALTORS® March 13, 2026
Louisiana’s 2026 Regular Session opened this week with several developments that matter directly to REALTORS ®, property managers and housing providers, alongside some broader political shifts worth watching. HB 292: Security Deposit Return Timelines Rep. Delisha Boyd’s HB 292, which addresses procedures for returning residential security deposits, was deferred to next week. This provides additional time for stakeholders to engage with members on practical impacts for lease administration, move out inspections and documentation standards. We’ll continue working to ensure any changes to deposit law are clear, workable and do not expose housing providers to unreasonable liability. Land Use and Development: St. James Parish Decision The Louisiana Supreme Court’s recent St. James Parish decision significantly tightens the standards for overturning local land use decisions, reinforcing that zoning and permitting authority rests with parish and municipal governments as long as their decisions are not arbitrary or capricious. For real estate and development, that means more predictability if projects are aligned with adopted plans and ordinances, but also higher stakes in local elections, planning processes and parish-level negotiations. Governor’s State of the State In his State of the State address, Governor Jeff Landry reiterated his push to phase out the state income tax, expand the LA GATOR and MJ Foster scholarship and workforce programs, and replace vehicle inspection stickers with a QR code system. These programs frame a debate around long-term competitiveness, workforce readiness and household cost of living which are all key drivers of housing demand and migration patterns. Business & Market Trends The business community is focusing the session on insurance, workforce and energy. Commercial and property insurance costs remain a top concern for employers and property owners, and we are monitoring civil justice and insurance reform proposals that could affect market stability and availability. At the same time, Louisiana is seeing more than $100 billion in announced industrial and data center projects, which could reshape local markets, labor conditions and housing needs in multiple regions of the state.
