New Penalties for Unlicensed Real Estate Activity

Louisiana REALTORS® sponsored Senate Bill 108 by Senator Bodi White passed the Senate and House of Representatives and has been signed by the Governor. This legislation is an amendment to an existing statute and adds criminal penalties for a violation. The amendment becomes effective August 1, 2017. 

The new provision includes fines and possible jail time. Any person or company, including a person licensed in another state who does not associate with a licensed Louisiana broker, who violates this statute shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. Louisiana REALTORS® is accepting applications for the 2028 Region 10 RVP on the National Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors to be voted on by the Board of Directors of Louisiana REALTORS® on Wednesday, March 4, in Bossier City, Louisiana. Eligible candidates can submit the application at the link below by Monday, February 16, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. to be considered for this position. Selected applicant will then proceed through the candidate background process with NAR, and elected by the NAR Board of Directors in October.
