Why is an Experienced REALTOR® So Important?

Louisiana REALTORS® • June 28, 2022

In an era where all of the information in the world is at our fingertips, DIY videos abound, and frictionless, turnkey services are available with the click of a button or the tap of a screen, there is no substitute for professional experience and expertise. This is especially true when it comes to buying or selling a home. There are more websites, apps, and online platforms than ever before for real estate transactions. Unfortunately, trying to sell your own home rarely has that outcome you intended, meaning you can leave a lot of money on the table. The same is true for buying a home without the best representation. Having a knowledgeable, professional REALTOR® is still the best decision you can make. Here are a few reasons why.

Experience in Setting an Asking Price or Offer

There are countless sites and programs that provide information about the value of homes. While these may be reasonable estimates, the actual details of your home or the home you are interested in purchasing are critical in determining what it is actually worth. Having access to all of this data is only useful if you know how to leverage it.

Experience in Negotiation

When the time arrives for you to make an offer, or accept an offer, it is critical to understand the details and negotiate accordingly. For home buyers, especially in today’s market, you may only have one shot to make an offer. You don’t want to pay way too much, but you need to know what a reasonable and competitive number would be. The same is true when selling. You need to understand the value of your home and again, what a reasonable and competitive offer looks like, so you don’t turn down something fair, or settle for the first offer that comes along. Your REALTOR® will be able to recognize the value of an offer, and more importantly the next steps to make it a successful transaction.

Experience in Handling the Details So You Don’t Have To

Being aware of new properties that hit the market is a full-time job. Furthermore, when selling, open houses and showings, in addition to keeping your home ready for potential buyers can be even more overwhelming. Your REALTOR® has access to the MLS and will stay up to date on any homes that become available and meet your needs. On the other hand, if you are selling, your REALTOR® can schedule showings, set up open houses, and handle your needs to achieve the best possible result.

In addition to the variety of services and benefits that your REALTOR® can offer, they also follow the NAR Code of Ethics, requiring them to act in your best interest.

Board Actions Approved a series of Finance Committee recommendations, accepting the association’s financial statement, approving the 2026 operating and advocacy budgets, and keeping dues at $156. The remaining $10 for the Consumer Advertising Campaign will fund optimized, metrics-driven activities that reach and engage consumers in critical markets. NAR CEO Nykia Wright and President Kevin Sears explained the shift at the opening session of the conference . Amended Standard of Practice 10-5 to give state and local associations greater clarity in how to fairly and consistently enforce Article 10 of the Code of Ethics. Made a series of recommendations to the Standards of Practice to bring the language in line with the terms of NAR’s 2024 settlement. Before the meeting ended, directors had donated more than $41,000.
