NAR Director Application

This application deadline is March 1, 2024.

Louisiana REALTORS® is accepting applications for 4 state seats (Small Association, Medium Association & 2 NAR State Allocated Directors) on the National Association of REALTORS® Board of Directors for 2025 to be voted on by the Board of Directors of Louisiana REALTORS® on Wednesday, April 10th in Baton Rouge Louisiana. The National Association of REALTORS® requires one of these seats to be filled by a member who has his or her primary membership with a small local association (1-499 members) and another to be filled by a member who has his or her primary membership with a medium local association (500 to 1999 members). Additionally, the 2 state allocated positions are a sliding 1-3 year term subject to NAR's calculation for state allocated directors which is done on an annual basis each July 31st.

  • What are the criteria for these two seats?

Candidates seeking these positions are required to meet all National Association of REALTORS® criteria listed below:

    • Be a REALTOR® member in good standing, actively engaged in the business of real estate.
    • Have served in some capacity within NAR governance, a state or local association, or NAR Institute, Society, or Council.
    • Complete the At Home with Diversity class, Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing class, and Fairhaven.
    • Complete a written application that includes the following:

               - Provide a statement describing their involvement in real estate, why they are seeking a position on the NAR Board of Directors, and what they believe they can contribute in their role.

               - Commitment to supporting the mission, priorities, and core values of NAR.

               - Acknowledge that the applicant will fulfill all duties and responsibilities of the role and abide by NAR policies.

  • Can I apply if I am a member of a large association?

Yes, large association members may apply for the state allocated positions.

Small Association Director - members of Bayou, Greater Central, Greater Fort Polk

Medium Association Director - members of Acadiana, Northeast, Northwest, Northshore, Southwest

State Allocated Specialty Director - open to all members

Please inquire with the leadership or staff of these local associations if you would like to find out more about NAR director seats allocated to either of them.

  • Who may submit an application?

Any qualified member may submit their name as a candidate for one of these two seats.  Member boards and members of Louisiana REALTORS® Board of Directors are also encouraged to submit candidates.

  • Who elects these NAR Directors?

The Louisiana REALTORS® Board of Directors elects these positions.

  • When does the Louisiana REALTORS® Board of Directors elect persons to serve in these positions?

The Louisiana REALTORS® Board of Directors will hold the election for these positions on April 10th at their meeting held in conjunction with the 2024 Spring into Action Conference in Baton Rouge.

  • How will it be determined if a candidate is eligible for the seat required to be filled by a member of a small association or a medium association?

Qualified candidates will be informed of their position on the ballot in the first week of March 2024.  Positions on the ballot will be based upon the most recent 2024 local association membership counts.

  • What is the term of these positions?

    Small Association - one year

    Medium Association - one year

NAR State Allocated - 1-3 years

  • Why are these one-year term positions?

Any member elected to serve in one of these seats would be ineligible to serve in the position the following year if his or her primary association total membership number increases or decreases and results in the local association being in another association size category. Therefore, these positions will be one-year positions elected each year.

  • Anything else I should know about these positions?

    • Any candidate elected to serve in one of these seats also serves on the Louisiana REALTORS® Board of Directors for their term if they also meet the qualifications to serve on the Louisiana REALTORS® Board of Directors.

    • The election is taking place in April rather than October because NAR requires the names of all state-allocated NAR Directors to be submitted by September 15, 2024, or the state loses the seats for 2025.

Application deadline was Friday, March 1, 2024.

Submissions now closed.
