Louisiana Residents Encouraged to Use New LDI Tools to Prepare for Hurricane Season

    June 9, 2026

Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple is reminding Louisianans to prepare now for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season by taking advantage of updated Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) storm resources, including a redesigned web page and mobile app.

State climatologist Jay Grymes said the 2026 season is expected to produce a slightly below average number of storms due to wind patterns that can disrupt hurricane activity. Researchers at Colorado State University forecast 13 named storms, including six hurricanes and two major hurricanes. Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30.

“Though meteorologists are predicting a below-average hurricane season this year, Louisianans know that it only takes one storm to make a devastating impact,” Commissioner Temple said. “I urge all policyholders to Be Insurance Ready by reviewing your policies now and discussing potential out-of-pocket costs with your agent. It’s much better to know how to file a claim before your property is damaged than to try to figure out that process after a storm.”

Residents are encouraged to visit the LDI Storm Resource Center, a newly redesigned webpage that streamlines access to critical information ranging from storm preparation and recovery to the post-disaster claims process.

Consumers may also download the LDIConnect app, available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The app provides insurance-specific push alerts related to severe weather and offers direct access to important LDI resources and assistance tools. Louisianans are encouraged to also download the GetAGamePlan App to access additional emergency information.

The LDI Office of Insurance Fraud urges policyholders, insurers and others to stay alert for potential insurance and contractor fraud and to help prevent residents from falling victim to scammers. Louisiana residents should report suspected insurance fraud to the LDI by calling 1-800-259-5300 or contacting us online.

“By preparing now, Louisiana families will be empowered to recover more quickly after a storm,” Commissioner Temple said. “Let’s all Be Insurance Ready this year.”

  • Operation Blue Roof

Operation Blue Roof is a priority mission managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The purpose of Operation Blue Roof is to provide homeowners and permanently occupied rental properties in disaster areas with fiber-reinforced sheeting to cover their damaged roofs until arrangements can be made for permanent repairs.

This is a free service to homeowners. Operation Blue Roof protects property, reduces temporary housing costs, and allows residents to remain in their homes while recovering from the storm.

The Right of Entry (ROE) is a legal document that allows Corps workers to access your property and assess damage to your home. The ROE also allows contracted crews to work on your roof.

No Cost: There are no costs associated with the Blue Roof program.
