IRS Guidance on 20% Business Income Deduction

The Internal Revenue Service issued proposed regulations for a new provision allowing many owners of sole proprietorships, partnerships, trusts and S corporations to deduct 20 percent of their qualified business income. The new qualified business income deduction is available for tax years beginning after Dec. 31, 2017.

Congress Extends NFIP through November 30

Last week, the U.S. Senate passed legislation to extend flood insurance funding. The bill cleared the House previously and is expected to be signed into law by the President. More than 129,000 REALTORS® representing about 15% of NAR members sent letters to their members of Congress in support of the extension. 

Office Closed July 3rd & 4th

The Louisiana REALTORS office will be closed on Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 4 in observance of our country's independence and to allow staff to spend time with family.

The Louisiana Legislature adjourned the third 2018 Special Session late Sunday evening. Call for Action: National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)

The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) and Louisiana REALTORS is supporting a national Call For Action (CFA) beginning June 18th and targeting the United States Senate and House of Representatives to reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

If Congress fails to take action to reauthorize the NFIP, it will expire by July 31, 2018 and cause issues in the market with transactions. REALTORS are the front line advocates for homeowners and need to respond and get the message out on the Hill.

2018 Legislative Session Recap

Louisiana REALTORS® is happy to report that the real estate industry came out of the 2018 Regular Legislative Session unscathed once again.  In large part, the bills that Louisiana REALTORS® supported are awaiting action on the part of the governor and bills that Louisiana REALTORS® opposed were either heavily amended to remove our opposition or stalled in the legislative process.

Fair Housing Compliance for REALTORS

On Monday, April 30, Louisiana REALTORS hosted an educational webinar that addressed Fair Housing Compliance for Real Estate Agents. The webinar was presented by Marilyn Lafrouy, Compliance Officer of the Public Protection Division. Lafrouy walked through her presentation and answered questions from agents in the field.

First Time Home Buyer Rebate Voluntarily Deferred

As of Monday, April 30, House Bill No. 383 was voluntarily deferred in the House Appropriations Committee at the request of Louisiana REALTORS® and the author.  Due to state budgetary issues, we do not anticipate this legislation being able to complete the legislative process. Therefore, the bill will not advance any further this session.

2018 Legislative Session (Week 5)

As we gear up for the state's legislative conference, week 5 update reports on the activity of the bills being followed related to inclusionary zoning and the regulation of boards and commissions.

Louisiana REALTORS® convened a group of legislative volunteers and the lobbying team for a review of over a hundred pieces of legislation filed for the 2018 regular session. Each bill is reviewed and considered by whether it impacts the real estate industry, it's practitioners, or if it impacts the property rights for Louisiana's citizens.

2019 LR Officer Candidatesf

There are two candidates for Louisiana REALTORS Officer positions. View their applications. Vote will take place at the April 26 Board of Directors meeting. 

HB 383 Advances out of House Ways and Means Committee

House Bill 383 by Representative Paula Davis was reported out of the House Ways and Means Committee by a 9 to 4 vote. Today's success can be attributed to the support of a great bill author, a great lobbying team, and the effort by REALTOR® members responding to the Call for Action and contacting their legislators for support of this bill.
