The Voice of real estate in the legislature

Louisiana REALTORS is the voice of real estate in the Louisiana Legislature. Our Federal and State legislative sections, composed of dedicated REALTOR members and staff, monitor, review and evaluate proposed legislation and rules of law that affect REALTORS, such as fair housing, agency, antitrust, etc.

Update as of 5/6/13

Legislative Session Update
Last week the Louisiana REALTORS® were able to have HB 400 deferred in the House Insurance Committee.  HB 400 would have caused significant problems with the issuance of and overall aspects of a home services contract.  The Louisiana REALTORS® also lent its support to SB 171 which passed unanimously off of Senate floor last week.  SB 171 by Senator Jack Donahue would keep developers and others from having to implement stringent guidelines on community water systems that could cause an increase in development costs by as much as 25% per lot.  Many cities and parishes are also supportive of this legislation.

The Louisiana REALTORS® also supported both bills SB 51 and HB 256 with amendments that will help bring back into commerce abandoned and blighted properties through the lien process and a shorter redemption period.
