Louisiana REALTORS is
the voice of real estate in the Louisiana legislature.
Our Federal and State legislative teams, composed
of dedicated REALTOR members and staff monitor, review
and evaluate proposed legislation and rules of law
that affect REALTORS, such as fair housing, agency,
antitrust, etc.
Louisiana REALTORS also
prepares and advocates legislation proposed by and in
the best interest of its members. Over the years, REALTORS
have enjoyed many legislative successes due to the work
of their state association, including an increase in
professional standards for all licensees, a rewrite
of the Agency Law in Louisiana, and we have consistently
opposed and beaten every proposed real estate transfer
tax.
Several legislative programs
and services are available for Louisiana REALTORS members,
and details on each are provided in this section. For
more information about the organization's role in governmental
affairs, contact Norman
Morris at 1-800-266-8538.

Legislative Recap
The 2008 legislative session concluded on Monday June
23rd. The Louisiana REALTORS® (LR) leadership
team wants to thank each of you for your hard work
and great grassroots support throughout the legislative
session. LR took a very active role in this first
session since term limits took effect. Your association
was able to advance several pieces of legislation
critical in keeping the real estate industry strong
and professional, while defeating legislation that
would have created problems for real estate consumers
and for your industry. What follows below is a full
summary of all legislative activity debated and considered
that was pertinent to the real estate industry. MORE
