Going above and beyond the law

Every real estate agent is subject to the law. REALTORS, however, subscribe to a higher standard of practice, going above and beyond what the law requires. REALTORS are bound to serve their clients, customers and fellow practitioners with the utmost care, concern and respect. A dedication to achieve the standard of excellence put forth in the REALTOR Code of Ethics is not only a REALTORS' best risk management tool - but it's good for business too.

To help its members maintain their high ethical standards, Louisiana REALTORS provides its members with a variety of risk management tools. Services such as the LR Legal Hotline, Legal Defense Fund, complete briefings on legal issues such as RESPA compliance, Do-Not-Call, mold, as well as sample contract language and recommended practices and procedures are just a few of the legal resources available to LR members.

Several of these resources are available through this website and are listed below. For more information, contact Scott Johnson at 1-800-266-8538

RESPA Resources
Louisiana REALTORS has advised its members to evaluate their current practices with regards to compliance with the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act of 1974 (RESPA), due to increased investigations of potentially illegal compensation to real estate practitioners by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The National Association of REALTORS has produced a "Q&A" document that addresses a number of frequently asked questions about RESPA:
