What A Great Designation!

  Joan Harris Photo

The GRI designation was the highlight of my career as a new agent in real estate sales. I considered the twelve classes as a jumpstart to my success in this business. The topics and instructors were very informative providing knowledge and experience to use within my daily business. Whether it was prospecting, marketing, or working with buyers and sellers, the classes empowered me to work with confidence. I’m a firm believer that knowledge is power, and the implementation of that knowledge from the GRI classes assisted me in accomplishing the goals I set as a new agent. I continue to take GRI classes just to stay abreast of the creative ways of doing business. As of today, I have earned other designations as well; ABR, ABRM, CRB, CRS, GRI, ePRO, SRES, CCIM

GRI Started Me on My Way!

I received my license in October 1971, and like most new agents was "thrown to the wolves." I began reading REALTOR Magazine and read stories about agents earning their GRI designation. In mid 1972 I attended my first 30 hour course in Lafayette. I drove my Volkswagen back and forth each day because I couldn't afford the hotel cost - in those days GRI was 3 one-week sessions. Being only 24 years old at the time, GRI saved my career. At the course I was introduced to ideas form around the United States as instructors like Ira Gribin from California (who later became President of the National Association of Realtors), Albert J Mayer III of Cincinati, OH and Ed Compere, a West Texas appraiser from Abilene who sparked my interest in appraising.

Since earning my GRI designation in 1973 I have been blessed to go on and earn my CRS (1978), ABR (1998), RECS (2002) and e-PRO (2004). It also helped me become President of my local Board in 1977, 1993, and 2005 and Chairman of the Board of the Louisiana Realtors in 2001. The GRI started me on my way.
