Q) What do I get for my dues dollars?

A) As a REALTOR®, your dues dollars protect your profession. The primary benefits provide you with legal protection, better laws to practice real estate and educate you as a professional in today's real estate environment.

We are your resource to information on:
• Issues that could cause legal challenges
Legislative issues on the local, state and federal levels
Professional training and education on real estate issues
Technology provider assuring that you have access to tools necessary to remain competitive
• Providing standards in all areas of transacting real estate in Louisiana

Q) Why should I pay a voluntary LARPAC contribution on my dues statement?

A) Your annual dues statement contains one way to make a voluntary contribution to the Louisiana REALTORS® Political Action Committee (LARPAC). These LARPAC funds are used to support political candidates who listen to REALTOR® positions on issues affecting your business. LARPAC also supports or works to defeat issues by getting involved in advocacy campaigns. This assures that as your business partner, we make a difference in the way you do business in Louisiana.

Q) Why should I earn the GRI designation?

A) Louisiana's Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) program is recognized as one of the top GRI programs in the nation. Surveys show that not only do GRI's make more money than non-designees, but that they are more likely to survive the difficult first few years of a real estate career. Louisiana law now requires that newly-licensed agents and brokers take 30 hours of post-licensing education within their first year. Because many of the GRI courses also qualify for state credit, you can meet the legal education requirements and be well on your way to earning the most prestigious real estate designation.

Q) Are there any other designations I can earn?

A) Yes. In fact, read through LR's designation page to learn about all the different types of designations you can earn. If you're interested in the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR) Designation make sure you visit our ABR page for more information about that designation. LR offers several different designation courses throughout the year so be sure to browse the education calendar to find out when you can start earning designations.

Q) How do I file an ethics complaint or a request for arbitration?

A) Contact your member Board. All ethics complaints and arbitration requests begin there. You will be asked to write down your complaint and, if deemed appropriate, to appear at a hearing.

Q) What about the State Association's insurance programs?

A) We offer several insurance programs to our members. Visit our members discounts page to learn about the different insurance programs we offer.

Q) Someone suggested that I go to the Fall Conference, but I don't see how it will help my business. Will it?

A) YES. The Louisiana REALTORS® Fall Conference offers excellent seminars, workshops and education opportunities with national speakers. It also gives you a chance to network with top real estate performers from throughout the state.

Q) Can the Louisiana REALTORS® help me with legal issues?

A) The Louisiana REALTORS® operates a Legal Assistance Hotline that gives your broker access to Louisiana real estate law specialists who can help you deal with situations that may arise in your business. To access the Legal Assistance Hotline, your broker may fax the question to 225-926-5922.

Q) Why should I be concerned about proper use of the REALTOR® trademark?

A) To preserve the exclusivity and integrity of the marks, you have an obligation to properly use the terms and to notify your member board or state association of any unauthorized or improper uses. Remember, the term REALTOR® must always appear in capital letters, and must always separate the term REALTOR® from your name or firm's name with punctuation, even when they appear on separate lines.
